Achilles tendon is said to make this condition far worse. It can affect both legs simultaneously. The root cause of this affliction is largely unknown. However, it usually arises from prolong period of standing, exercising, obesity, etc. Other reasons include physical aspect of inward rolling of the foot, low fitness level and even heel spurs which is also found common with Plantar Fasciitis patients. This disease is specifically associated with insertion site of ligament on the bone which experience micro tears, breakdown of collagen and scarring. The diagnosis of this condition is based on symptoms and is conducted with the help of ultrasound. The minor cases usually resolve itself with time. In some cases, rest, change in exercise pattern and stretching are recommended (Beeson, 2014). However, in major cases most of the patients have experienced helplessness when it comes to medical aid.

Figure 1. Areas of foot mostly affected by Plantar Fasciitis

Kevin Morgan, a veterinary pathologist, demonstrated this helplessness in his article “So-Called Plantar Fasciitis! Building a Database to Optimize Therapeutic Strategies” (2016). In his article, utilizing his own experiences and data collection, he stressed upon the lack of database on the research and failure of medicines to ascertain its root cause. Generally, inflammation is thought of as a symptom of this condition, but in about 50 severe cases, inflammation is absent. The future of patients suffering from severe form of this condition seems dreary at best. Morgan reviewed a series of treatments and found them to be inconsistent. However, he suggested another option which we often ignore that is, our shoes. Shoes play a significant role in our movement, coordination and stability. In his other studies, he has illustrated his point. In the graph 1 below, it is obvious that changing shoes is the best option to mitigate the condition.

Graph 1. Changing Shoes is most effective against plantar fasciitis in terms of benefits and risks (Morgan, n.d.)

As the above graph demonstrated, shoes are the best method to get rid of this condition. He also focused upon the risk factors involved in various treatments and found that changing of shoes is a better option to adopt than much riskier Cortisone Shots. This is a dynamic insight into the condition as it changed the way we look at this affliction. It is better to try simpler and safer option than adopting a drastic measure.
The question that emerges in one’s mind is why shoes are effective against such a severe disease. The answer lies in our movement. Most of the shoes control our movement by providing balance, stability, flexibility, etc. which are necessary for our body’s free motion during any activity. Thus, it becomes significant to have shoes which improve our movement for better. Morgan asserted that not any kind of shoes can provide relief in this condition. For a particular biomechanical ill, a particular kind of shoe is needed in order to provide relief. Hence, some shoes can end up making the condition even worse by not tackling the issue effectively and making it worse.

ORTHOTIC INSERTSbest inserts for plantar fasciitis

Orthotic Inserts in case of Plantar Fasciitis are often recommended because they have found to provide relief. As we have already discussed Plantar fasciitis is a disease which can cause severe bouts of pain. In such a condition, wearing unsupportive shoes especially while walking regularly on hard and unnatural surfaces can cause the condition to become worse. People are often forced to become less active or completely inactive as part of the treatment. This is dangerous as the obesity and inactivity can cause more damage than good. It’s possible to experience immediate relief with the use of orthotic inserts. They are one of less invasive, more effective and much cheaper methods of dealing with Plantar Fasciitis. Their high success rate and their low cost orthotics have made them the most recommended form of treatment by GP’s and foot specialists. The question is how they work. They work simply by re-aligning the foot and supporting the arches. This leads to removal of excess strain and stress on the plantar fascia ligament. ARCH SUPPORTarch support for plantar fasciitis

Before discussing Arch support for plantar fasciitis, it is necessary to address the importance of arch supports in our feet. The arch of foot is the curved portion of the inside of each of feet. It starts just below the ball of the foot and the toes and extends to the heel. Arches should be about the same size and shape on both feet though width and length of the arch can vary. The shape of arches can shift and change with the development of body. Thus, the size and curve of the arch can change from childhood to adulthood. Now the question which needs to be answered is why we need them in shoes. People with super-high arches need arch supports to prevent arch from flexing too much. Additionally, they give foot way more contact area without which foot hits the floor at only three points, which can be rather painful over time. People with flat feet have also found these supports to be rather relieving when it comes to leg pain. They provide stability in the feet. Without these supports, it becomes difficult to balance between putting weight of the body on heels or toes and put stress on both with no support in the middle. Some of the best shoes with arch supports are:

Plantar Fascia Taping
taping

Plantar fascia taping is another method which is often recommend to alleviate the stress on the plantar fascia ligament. It works by limiting or restricting the movement of the fascia. It has been found especially useful in relieving pain and inflammation associated with plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, and other inflammation-related foot pain.

One only needs basic athletic or kinesiology tape. It is a common practice among athletes who use it to ease tension and stress placed on the plantar fascia ligament by limiting the amount of stretching done by it. This prevents it from stretching excessively which could result in tears in the fascia fibers. It is quite simple to use this method. It can be applied in the morning to reduce strain throughout the day, or just prior to exercise to keep the fascia from moving too much during physical activity. The application of this method among the athletes is the testimony to its effectiveness.
Thus, one can ease the pain and severity of the Plantar Fasciitis by using one of the or all of the above mentioned treatments. This article has been sourced from experiences and research of a reputed Pathologist and all the information presented here is much safer in nature. Hence, it can be safely used to guide a patient through the maze of pain of Plantar Fasciitis.
